Common questions
Chrome won’t load the extension.
Extract the ZIP first. In chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the folder containing manifest.json. If your organization disables Developer mode, ask your IT administrator about approved installation options.
I don’t see the guide on the service’s website.
Only Google Takeout uses an on-page guide. For the other services, follow the separate MyDataPreserver guide tab. If Takeout is already open after an extension update, reload it or reopen it through the extension.
A field has a red asterisk.
The field needs attention before you can save or download the instructions. Select at least one category where requested. For custom dates, enter both dates and make sure the start is on or before the end. The marker clears when corrected.
The service doesn’t have a requested category.
Provider labels and available options can differ by account. Pause and ask your requestor how to proceed. Do not silently broaden the scope or substitute a different date range.
How do I switch between collections?
Open Collections and history and continue the service you need. Switching retains each collection’s confirmed progress. Archived collections remain in local history and can be restored.
Does “Export requested” mean the files are ready?
No. It records that you confirmed requesting an export. Wait for the provider’s notification, download all required parts, and then confirm those separate steps. MyDataPreserver does not independently verify completion.
Will the requestor see my progress automatically?
No. Requests and collection activity are stored locally in each user’s Chrome profile. Send reports and exports through the agreed delivery channel. Requestor tracking statuses are updated manually.
Where are my exports and activity reports?
The service’s exports and any reports you saved are in the locations you selected when downloading. The extension does not store or inspect evidence files. Collection progress remains in the Chrome profile where the extension is installed.
Can I uninstall and reinstall without losing progress?
Uninstalling removes local extension records. Save reports you need first. To update the unpacked preview, replace the files in the same installation folder and use Reload instead. A report is a record for review, not an importable backup.
